Incident Command System 100 - Emergency Management for Agriculture

This live-webinar course has been designed and will be instructed by Susan Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald & Co., a seasoned expert with 35 years of experience in agricultural research, writing, and rural affairs. Susan is highly regarded for her work in biosecurity and the transportation of livestock, poultry, and deadstock—including the development of emergency management course materials, reference manuals, and post-secondary certificate programs.

Who should attend this course?

All members within Canada’s supply chain – including producers, transporters, feedlot operators, auction markets, processors, veterinarians, veterinary technologists and technicians, veterinary and laboratory office administration, hatcheries, provincial, territorial, and national associations 

What will the course cover?

This course is designed for the agricultural sector and has explanations and examples that are focused on occurrences and events that require a response to protect life, property, and/or the environment – e.g., animal disease incidents.

This course will familiarize participants with the structure, basic principles, key concepts and functions, and terminology used in the Incident Command System (ICS). 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the Incident Command System and functions with it, including how to customize scalable plans to meet the needs of and/or manage very limited or extremely complex incidents—planned and unexpected.

What does this course involve? 

This course is presented in a live-webinar format that combines lecture and interactive-distance learning in a single, 6.5-hour session (including breaks). 

To access this live-webinar course, participants will need:

•    A computer/laptop/tablet device connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi access) 

•    To download the latest version of the Zoom video conferencing app at https://zoom.us/download?os=win

•    An ICS-100 course workbook, which will be mailed in a hard copy format to each registrant to use in the live-webinar session.

At the end of the course, participants will be asked to complete a knowledge assessment and a course evaluation. 

After successfully completing the knowledge assessment, participants will be awarded a certificate of ICS-100 course completion.

The ICS instructor will be available throughout the session to answer questions and lead discussions.

Presented by the European Commission for the Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (EuFMD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

This hybrid live-webinar and online course has been developed through a partnership of Animal Health Canada with the EuFMD, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and United States Department of Agriculture.
 
What will the course cover?
 
This course will provide you with the information you need to investigate a suspect case of foot and mouth disease, including disease recognition, laboratory sampling, outbreak investigation and biosecurity. It will also allow you to network with colleagues around Canada and the US and with international FMD experts.
 
What does it involve?
 
The course will involve approximately 12-26 hours of study. However, this study is self-directed, so you can complete the training at any convenient time during the six-week period, starting and stopping as you wish. You will need a computer/laptop/tablet device connected to the Internet in order to take part in the course. No special software is required.
 
At the end of the course, you will be asked to take an online assessment, and if this is completed successfully you will be awarded a certificate. This hybrid live-webinar and online course has been approved by the Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) for 25.75 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval.
 
EuFMD expert trainers will be available in an online discussion forum throughout the training course to answer questions and lead discussions on many aspects of FMD investigation and control.
 
When will the course take place?

Course Start Date: February 18

All registrants will have two extra weeks to complete the self-paced online coursework - 
End Date Now Extended to: March 28, 2025
